Math Centers Going Strong!

During our second week of school, our class worked very hard learning to move about the classroom and begin our math centers.  One center focused on learning ordinal numbers. To practice learning ordinal numbers, we lined up numbered cups. While one person closed his eyes the other hid a block under a cup. The person who hid the block gave clues where to find it, "It is greater than the 7th place."  Lot's of learning and laughter were happening in that center!

With all the brand new laptops in the school, we have had daily opportunities to listen and follow along with books online and strengthen our math skills. We even learned a new math program called DreamBox!

Getting To Know Each Other Through Play Dough

Who doesn't LOVE play dough?  Everyone enjoyed using play dough to make objects of things they did over the summer, love to eat or favorite activity. No matter how out going or shy we were, we couldn't wait to share and tell a new friend about our art work. Shhhh!  We have a secret. We are going to use our play dough art work to inspire our writing!

S.T.E.M!

On the second day of second grade, we learned paper engineering creating a spring, movable mouth and wiggly tooth. These skills were then applied in a S.T.E.M. challenge to create a name plate that was readable from across the room, have a movable part and stand on its own.  From initial design to redesigning, we created some amazing pieces!
